Program Overview
The Respiratory Therapist Program provides the instruction to enable the graduate to function as a competent respiratory care practitioner. As an RCP, you can work under medical direction to provide treatment, management, diagnostic evaluation, and care to patients with problems associated with the cardiopulmonary system. Job responsibilities vary from administering oxygen, humidity, aerosols, drainage of lung secretions, and mechanical ventilation to using technologically sophisticated monitoring devices and treatment techniques to enhance the survival of patients in intensive care units. Respiratory therapists may also perform pulmonary function testing. The curriculum includes a combination of classroom and laboratory instruction and clinical practice in area hospitals, doctors’ offices, and clinics. The Commission fully accredits the Registered Respiratory Therapist Program on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. In addition, Mountwest Community and Technical College award an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy upon completing all required coursework. Once completed, you may challenge the national board exam to earn your credentials. You can earn two designations: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). The National Board administers the board exam for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for respiratory therapists was $61,830 in May 2020. As a result, job growth for respiratory therapists is projected to be much faster than average for all occupations.

Student Outcomes
CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an ‘outcomes based’ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.
