Program Overview
The Collins Career Technical Center in Ohio offers a Licensed Practical Nurse-to-Registered Nurse (LPN-to-RN) Diploma program. This program is designed for individuals who are already licensed practical nurses and wish to become registered nurses. The program combines practical nursing and registered nursing education to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver advanced patient care as registered nurses. The curriculum covers topics such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing fundamentals, patient assessment, and more, as well as hands-on training in a clinical setting. The program is full-time and typically takes 11 months to complete. Upon completing the program, graduates can take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to become registered nurses.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the starting salary locally for registered nurses is $62,810. Job growth for registered nurses is projected to be much faster than average for all occupations.
This program is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
What do Registered Nurses Do?
Registered nurses typically do the following:
- Assess patients’ conditions
- Record patients’ medical histories and symptoms
- Observe patients and record the observations
- Administer patients’ medicines and treatments
- Set up plans for patients’ care or contribute information to existing plans
- Consult and collaborate with doctors and other healthcare professionals
- Operate and monitor medical equipment
- Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze the results
- Teach patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries
- Explain what to do at home after treatment
