Veteran Student Support and Policies
Veterans Principles of Excellence
Collins Career Technical Center (CCTC) follows the Principles of Excellence (Executive Order 13607) guided by the Department of Veteran Affairs, the Department of Education, and the Department of Defense. We ensure our commitment to supporting veteran students in the following ways:
- Program Information: Each veteran student receives a Program Information Sheet during advising, which outlines the program sequence, cost, and program structure.
- Consumer Information: We provide veterans with relevant consumer information through direct emails, and future students can access this information on our website.
- Financial Aid Guidance: We encourage veterans using VA Educational Benefits to complete the FAFSA and explore all federal and state financial aid options before considering loans.
- Personalized Financial Aid Support: Our Financial Aid Coordinator meets with each student individually to answer any financial aid questions or concerns.
- VA Benefits Assistance: The School Certifying Official is the primary contact for all VA Educational Benefit-related inquiries.
- Compliance with Title IV: CCTC follows all Title IV policies for federal financial aid and refunds.
- Military Accommodation: We accommodate service members and reservists absent due to service requirements.
- Responsible Recruiting: CCTC uses ethical recruiting practices and avoids fraudulent or aggressive marketing techniques when recruiting students.
Veterans Benefits Policy for Evaluation of Prior Credit
CCTC evaluates academic and military transcripts for all veterans and eligible recipients of veteran benefits to determine if credit applies to the student's program of study.
- Transcript Submission: Students must provide academic and military transcripts from previous institutions at least two weeks before enrolling in a VA-eligible program.
- Evaluation Process: The Program Director or designee evaluates these transcripts, and students receive notification via email within one week if prior credit is granted.
- Program Adjustments: If we grant credit, we shorten the program duration and adjust the cost accordingly.
Veterans Receiving Benefits - Late Fees Policy
Per the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, CCTC does not impose late fees, restrict access, or apply penalties on veteran students due to delayed VA payments. We handle any late payments the student owes according to the Tuition Payment Plan Policy.
Veterans Receiving Benefits - Academic and Attendance Policy
CCTC takes daily attendance for all students and reviews it weekly by the Financial Aid Coordinator or their designee.
- Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP): Veteran students must maintain a minimum of 80% or a "C" average. Those failing to meet these requirements during their SAP evaluation receive an academic warning and a status notification.
- Academic Support: Veteran students on academic warning meet with the Financial Aid Coordinator to discuss strategies for improving their academic performance to meet SAP standards by the end of the following payment period.
- Program Removal: If it becomes mathematically impossible for a student to meet SAP requirements or does not achieve satisfactory progress at the end of the subsequent review, the student will be removed from the program in line with CCTC's Withdrawal/Refund Policy.
- Re-Enrollment: Veterans wishing to re-enroll in a program must follow the Veterans Policy for Evaluation of Prior Credit.
- Communication with the VA: Veterans using VA benefits must inform the Veterans School Certifying Official of any communication from the VA regarding changes in their benefit status.
