About the WorkKeys® Test

The ACT WorkKeys is a nationally recognized assessment that measures essential workplace skills, including applied mathematics, graphic literacy, and workplace documents. These skills are critical for career success and provide a standardized way to evaluate a candidate’s readiness for technical programs. At Collins Career Technical Center, we use the WorkKeys assessment as an entrance exam for many of our adult education programs. Applicants must score in each subject area to qualify for their chosen program. The required scores vary by program and are listed in the table below. This ensures students have the foundational skills to succeed in their coursework and future careers.

The WorkKeys® assessments include the following:

  • Applied Math: Measures critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving techniques for situations that actually occur in today’s workplace. While students can use calculators and conversion tables to help with the assessment problems, math skills are still needed to think them through.
  • Graphic Literacy: Measures the skills needed to locate, synthesize, and use information from workplace graphics. In today’s world, data comes in a variety of formats. From charts to graphs, diagrams to floor plans, identifying what information is being presented and understanding how to use it are critical to success.
  • Workplace Documents: Measures the skills people need when reading and using written texts such as memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies, and regulations on the job.
